TAXUS x media ‘Densiformis’ (Dense Japanese Yew)

0658 The hybrid between English yew (Taxus baccata) and Japanese yew (Taxus cuspidata), Taxus x media is a variable evergreen shrub with flat, supple, dark green needles. Its cultivar ‘Densiformis’ is of bushy, compact, spreading habit, growing twice as wide as tall. Its bright green foliage becomes brown-tinged in the winter. A female clone, it produces red fleshy berries in summer. Give it well-drained soil and shelter from harsh sun. ‘Densiformis’ makes a good plant for low hedges, foundation plantings, or mixed borders. Deer and self-sown seedlings can be a problem.
