HYPERICUM calycinum

St Johnswort  –

0188 “Hypericum means ‘above a picture’ referring to the fact that in ancient cultures cuttings were hung above pictures to ward off evil spirits on the eve of St. John’s Day. Thus we have the common name of ‘St. John’s Wort’. This plant has a long display of flowers. Star-shaped to rounded, usually with a cluster of stamens sticking out of the center.

Large, saucer-shaped, 5-petaled, bright yellow flowers with distinctively protruding bushy stamens cover this dense shrubby ground cover with spectacular bloom in summer. Clad with leathery, rich green leaves.”
