Site Selection
This perennial does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn’t be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil type, but has a definite preference for alkaline soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution.

Planting Instructions
Aubrieta is propagated mainly from seeds. Sow seeds directly into the flower garden or indoors for transplanting outside later in the season. Sow Aubrieta seeds early in the season and cover lightly with fine garden or potting soil. Keep the soil moist during germination. Plants will bloom in the spring of the second year after planting.

Care
Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone over the growing season to conserve soil moisture. This plant can be propagated by division.

Companion Plants
Basket-of-gold – The brilliant gold blooms of basket-of-gold form at the same time as those of purple rock cress, making a stunning color combination. Both look great draping over a low wall.
Dianthus – The bluish-green foliage and pink blooms of dianthus coordinate beautifully with purple rock cress.
Sedum – Creeping sedum is a good partner for purple rock cress on a slope or rock wall. Both appreciate good drainage and soften harsh lines.
